Brakes, Backs, Blueberries, Books, Recipes & Of Course....

Covid19 Coverage

June 12, 2020

Several things have been keeping me occupied lately, not the least of which is spending time in a garage waiting for the brakes to be looked after, suffering with back pain (I guess that comes with the territory of getting old), having to deal with 3 pints of blueberries before they go bad (so making a blueberry pie - which is what I'm in the midst of doing right now - just waiting for the shortening to get cold enough to cut into the flour to make the piecrust).

I want to thank our awesome neighbours for the beautiful bouquet they brought over to me tonight on account of us having to put Darcy down the other day. It was totally unexpected but very much appreciated and very thoughtful of them! The flowers are just gorgeous!

The books mentionned in the title, is an accumulation of books that I found over time, that I thought maybe you'd be interested in. Most are on how to take care of stuff yourself and some are just to provide some laughs, when we feel we could use one or a few.

The recipes are links to lots and lots of recipes - I know that the quarantine has a lot of people experimenting in the kitchen and wanting to learn to cook or to try new recipes and I'm always interested in new recipes since I have a garden (which finally got totally planted too), that usually generates more food than the 2 of us can eat at once - so having recipes to use the produce in, allows me to use the food and conserve it one way or another for when we can/want it, rather than have 20 tomatoes all at once and getting sick of tomato this, that and something else, it allows me to make things with the tomatoes as in canning, or cooking (to freeze) and at the same time try new recipes so we don't wind up getting sick and tired of the same old, same old.

Then of course there's the COVID news.... Why such a hodge podge you ask? Well because I really have to get this stuff out here so my husband can once and for all get his computer back. I mean he's literally been a saint about it, for the sake of my blog. So, before he loses patience, I have to really make a push to give him back his computer this weekend at the latest.

Ebooks

These are ebooks that I thought might be of benefit to those still under quarantine and have to manage on their own or for those who just need a laugh once in awhile. All books have the format type listed in their description on the download site and all books are downloadable from the longfiles link or other specified link on the page.

Bike Maintenance Tips, Tricks & Techniques  For those who are using their bikes more and thus needing to do more maintenance and repairs on them.

Clock Repairer's Handbook With no schedules to keep and no where to go, I'm not so sure time is a vital component in many people's lives these days, so maybe malfunctioning or broken clocks don't bother us as much they should. But on the off chance someone does need to fix their clock perhaps this book will be of assistance.

Wiring Complete: Expert Advise from Start to Finish  If you have an electrical problem in the house that needs fixing perhaps this book will guide you through the steps, but you should really have a qualified electrician come in and verify the work you did, before turning the power back on again.

Practical Watch Repairing  Not sure how practical this book will be since most watches now-a-days are electronic or digital and don't use gears so much anymore.

Home Repair Handbook  This might be of use to the home owner who has minor repairs to do.

Quick Fixes for Your Home Another book to help with minor repairs in the home. This one is downloadable from the ul link given.

Organize Your Whole House: Do-it-yourself Projects for Every Room! Also downloadable from the ul link given.

Complete Self Massage Workbook: Over 100 Simple Techniques for Re-Energizing Body and Mind  If you live alone and are feeling stressed out and in need of massages this book comes to your rescue.

The Family Preparedness Buyer's Guide: The Best Survival Gear, Tools, and Weapons for Your Skills and Budget  You just never know when you'll be needing what these days. Especially with all the rioting and insanity going on out there.

The Home Owner's Manual The one we never got when we bought our house.

Zoom Made Easy  For those who are trying to set up their home office to conference from home, using Zoom.

Zoom Made Easy Another book by the same name as the previously list one, so you have a choice.

Off Grid Solar Made Easy  For RVs, vans & tiny homes. You just never know when the power companies might use the COVID excuse to shut the grid down, so at least you'll be prepared even if no one else is or can be.

An Encyclopedia of Humor  Who doesn't need a laugh once in awhile?

Readers Digest Funny Family Jokes  Jokes suitable for all ages.

Jokelopedia Silliest & Dumbest Jokes Ever.

Coronavirus - Master Your Immunity A downloadable video course aimed at those who want to remain healthy during the pandemic.

COVID19 Continuing Coverage

Quarantine fatigue: Governors reject new lockdowns as virus cases spike  As my son said the other day, once they lift the lockdown here in it's entirety they'll never be able to reimpose another lockdown without people going insane and rioting.  I think that's probably why they won't reimpose it there either. They know when the people have had enough and will fight back.

These people have been sick with coronavirus for more than 60 days. Wow! That's a really long time to be sick with it!

Beijing city reports its first coronavirus infection in nearly two months How does one pick up a virus that is not around?

Second U.S. Virus Wave Emerges as Cases Top 2 Million That's total BS. In order for a second wave of anything the first one has to have been totally vanquished and there not be any more cases of it floating around, but as we all know that never happened. What is happening here is the 1st wave that was having it's curves flattened got out of control and flared up massively due to premature reopening of society and all the riots and rallies going on recently.

Mosque will become impure if sanitisers are used: Islamic cleric Impure if sanitizers are used huh? I'd have thought it would be the reverse, due to all the dirt, filth and germs lurking there because it's not being sanitized.  So if alcohol is the problem here.... What do you do when you go to a doctor's and they administer a shot, but clean the skin with an alcohol swab before the injection?

Russia rolls out first approved COVID-19 drug as infections pass 500,000 I hope it works better than some past Russian inventions and manufactured goods - Lada is one example that comes to mind immediately.

EU wants to buy COVID-19 vaccines up front - unless they're made in America Wondering if that has to do with politics (as in not trusting Donald Trump) or Bill Gates as in not trusting his agenda.

Jagmeet Singh ‘Appalled’ Extendicare Planning $10M Payout Amid COVID-19 Crisis Normally I don't agree with this guy, but I have to say in this particular case I do.

Bill would give police, government sweeping power over citizens This my friends is right here in Canada in the otherwise tame little province New Brunswick, where the aspiring dictator, in power wants to try to use this pandemic to pass draconian laws like this. This guy should be hauled out of the NB legislature by  his ears, by the military and thrown in jail for trying to usurp the constitutional rights of the NB citizens.  NB'ers had better remember this attempt at grabbing total power, the next time they go to the polls and vote Herr Higgler out of office immediately. See? Stuff like this doesn't only occur in 3rd world regimes. The gov'ts across Canada from the Federal gov't to the NB & now the QC govts are all trying to pull stuff like this where they'd have unbridled power to do certain things and they're using the pandemic to try to pull this stuff on us. You've got to keep a sharp eye on all of them. Otherwise if you give them a millimeter they'll be taking several kilometers instead.

Coronavirus crisis could see number of extreme poor rise to 1.1 billion worldwide: researchers  I can just see the 1%'er scavengers just circling overhead, right now, drooling over the spoils they'll be able to get for next to nothing.

Tourism & Holidays Quebec They are offering through Sepaq discounts to Quebecers who want to visit their own province on their vacation this summer. Check out both sites for more details about the various packages and discounts available.

Study: 100% face mask use could crush second, third COVID-19 wave I doubt it, given the studies on the masks I've seen and posted here.

Coronavirus: Overwhelmed India hospitals turn Covid patients away

Earlier coronavirus second wave feared in Europe after mass protests Like I pointed out above, for there to be a 2nd wave the first one has to have been totally vanquished and it hasn't. This will just be a massive flare up of the first wave, is all.

Half of N.B. home care workers to be excluded from $500 federal top-up If it's given by the Federal government, provincial governments shouldn't have any say in who gets it. Seems to me like the conniving crooked wanna-be dictator Herr Higgler, probably wants the money that would otherwise go to them, to go to himself or to benefit him in some way or another (like a pay raise that he gives himself or something of that nature). I'd boot that guy out of office as soon as I could if I lived in NB.

P.E.I. could lose 85% of its tourism business because of COVID-19  I'm sorry..... But you're expecting us to feel sorry for a region who's own government is  imposing these restrictions on itself? Here's an idea if you don't like the idea of losing that much potential revenue from tourism..... Open it up to tourists!

More turning to RVs, motor homes to escape COVID-19 — and get away from it all I would love to have an RV this summer so we could go visit all the various areas of Quebec.

Houston Weighs Reimposing Lockdown, Sees ‘Precipice of Disaster’  I guess we'll have to watch and see how well that goes. If they have no problems reimposing it, then you can look forward to it being reimposed here too, if need be. If on the other hand there's a huge resistance to it, maybe leaders of other regions will take a hint and not reimpose it, either.

Sleeping in, showering less. BC Hydro says power use changes since pandemic I'd hazard a guess and say it's not just in BC that this is true.

US economist: Europe must 'completely suppress' virus Geez this one is a genius.... It's not just Europe that must suppress it, but the entire world must suppress it.

Loblaw, Metro scrap premium pay for grocery workers  That's not fair to the workers, considering the pandemic is still ongoing and nothing's changed really except more people are allowed back out to work and more companies reopening, but that has more to do with preventing an all out societal and economic collapse than being over the pandemic.

Trump Told Rallies May Give Fans COVID But He’s Still Demanding Jam-Packed Crowds  When it comes to  Trump, what can we say?

COVID-19 antibody tests remain elusive in Canada Because I think they really do not want us to know if we are immune to it or not, because if we know we're immune, we'll be flouting their draconian lockdown measures and refusing the vaccine they probably want to force us all to get.

Quebec to address COVID-19 on farms after temp workers test positiveCOVID-19: Now's not the time to go 'hog-wild,' experts warn Hmmmm I think that warning came a lot too late, considering that a lot of people spent time sitting, lying and standing on top of each other in parks on some recent nice weekends and thousands of people have been, marching, running and protesting together almost on a non stop basis all over the place including in Ontario and Quebec.

Coronavirus survivor in US receives double lung transplant That's rough.  To go through the virus to the extent that it so severely damages both lungs that you need a double lung transplant, is rough in itself, but then afterwards having to go through the actual transplant as well.... Terrible. I just hope she survives and her new lungs are accepted by her body.
