Useful & Interesting...

Online Sites, Programs, Books & Information

May 8, 2020

As it looks like there's basically no end in site for quarantine, except now the seniors have a little bit more of a break than they had before. Being able to go out and get their own stuff and not having to order everything online or by phone and thus not having to continue to pay for everything via credit card, is a break in itself. Plus being able to see family now is just awesome! So with that in mind, I figured maybe there's some things that we'd like to do or have done for ourselves but can't because of the quarantine, thinking that maybe some of those things if we just had the right tools, software or information we might be able to do them ourselves.  Over time I've acquired many such links to various types of "tools", "software" and "information resources" that I thought I might share with you here now, in case someone else out there might like them too.

Photo Editor Online It allows you to edit photos to suit your liking.

Plants You Should Always Grow Side-by-Side A list of plants that should be grown side by side, as they provide mutual help to each other - some fight off certain kinds of bugs, some attract certain kinds of bugs, some draw up soil nutrients that bother other plants etc. So if you plan on planting a garden this year, you might want to take a look at this first.

10 Minute Mail - Free Anonymous Temporary Email Address Can be used for a variety of reasons but the one I use it for is to provide an email address for validation purposes - when a website wants an email address and then sends you a validation notice - especially if I don't want to give them my real email address.

Ready, Set, Renovate! My husband was a construction worker for many years, and even he thinks this is  good sage advice for those wishing to renovate or hire a contractor to do it for them.

About me - Create a page to promote who you are and what you do in one link. If you want to promote yourself and whatever it is you do - even if it's multiple things, you can promote all of that with this page.

Collaborate & Create Amazing Graphics For things like banners, posters, flyers etc.

YouTube to MP4 & MP3 Converter I used to have a YouTube downloader that was free, that downloaded the YouTube videos and coverted it to either of those formats or avis which were generally smaller in file size, than the other formats. I haven't been able to find it again, so I don't know if it still exists anywhere.

DeviantArt They claim to be the largest online gallery & community. You can go there and browse all kinds of art done by people from all over the world. You can even submit your own digital artwork there too if you wish.

Is It Down? When you're having problems accessing a site and wonder if it's down for everyone or just you this site will find out for you.

How to Pronounce This site not only tells you how to pronounce words in a variety of languages it also has dictionaries with meanings, synonyms, sentence usage examples, translation and more.

Colour Wheel A Colour Palette Generator Can be very useful for artists of all types, quilters, interior decorators and others.

MIT App Inventor I can't say that this is anything I have tried or want to try, but for those who would like to try something like this, this is probably the ultimate link for that aspiration.

The best free YouTube downloader 2020: save videos from YouTube the easy way  I decided to post the list that I found because there's so many of them and they all have different features, so it depends on the ones you'd like. Personally, I think I'll get one downloader for the 360 VR videos and another that downloads and converts to various formats (to save disk space is one reason I prefer the avis, but other electronic gizmos only support certain formats so the downloaded format may not be suitable for them and will need to be converted).

Netflix Canada The TV streaming service that you can watch online, on TV, on your electronic devices. This is where you sign up to get your account.

Free Stock Videos Which I guess can be used on your own website or in a variety of other ways. I could see using a few of those on here, myself, at some point maybe.

Pocket Allows you to curate articles from all over the net. Think of it as a reading/knowledge based curator like Pinterest is for the arts/crafts community.

Print Friendly Make any webpage, print friendly or a PDF file. Many recipe blogs have this option for their recipes.

Draw on Maps - The Easiest Way to Draw and Share Maps! Maybe you want to show someone whereabouts you are located and the easiest way to get there. You can do it with these maps (providing you/they have one of your area) by drawing the route on the map, for them. Because after all we're seniors and not all of us have a cellphone with Google Maps, nor a GPS in our cars and some of us prefer good old fashioned maps to that technology.

Speedtest Would you like to test the actual speed of your internet service? By testing the connection, upload & download speeds? To make sure your provider is telling you the truth about the speeds? Well now you can, using this site.

Tumblr Tumblr is a blog site, that I assume is free to anyone.  I don't know how difficult or easy it is to use though.

1.7 Million+ Stunning Free Images - If you need free images to use in your work, on your website, in your art, or whatever you might want them for, you can find them here.

Budget Tracker & Planner Free - By Intuit Keep track of your budget and finances.

Get Fit & Lose Weight With Free Online Plan  It's supposed to be free and supposed to provide personalized diet and fitness plans.

The Drudgereport I'm sure everyone's heard of this site, where the biggest breaking news headlines appears here first, generally speaking. So if you want to be on top of all the goings on out there in the world, but sometimes mostly only the USA, this is the place to be.

Paper Toys Custom 3D Papercrafts  These are awesome. There was another site years ago, with things like Honda motorcycles, the Taj Mahal, Space Shuttle etc on it. I downloaded a few and put some of them together. For paper models they were just awesome.  Older kids and teenagers would probably have a blast with these.

Crackle Watch Movies Online Free This site is owned by Sony so all the movies shown here are owned by them.

Popcorn Flix  Another free online movie site.

Vudu, Rent, Buy Watch Free Movies Online  You can rent movies and buy movies (though I don't know how that works - maybe if you buy them you get to download them), and they also have a selection of free movies - many of them quite good.

H&R Block File Taxes Online Free  Well this is it. If you haven't done them yet you have just a little over 3 weeks left to get them filed.

Windows 10 is still free to download. Here's how to get the upgrade  This is a cnet article that talks about it, telling you what to do, how to do it, where to download it from and everything else you need to know about upgrading to Windows10, if  you wish to do so.

The following 2 links are downloadable from the longfiles link:

First Aid for Your Car: Your expert guide to common problems & how to fix them  If your local mechanic is still under quarantine or so booked that he can't see you for a while (as is the case with our mechanic) this might be able to help you get your car back into shape. It's an ebook in mobi format.

Coronavirus Diet: Carbs, Fats, & Proteins This is a video supposedly talking about a diet that will help you ward off Coronavirus, though I wouldn't put too much faith in it, if I were you.
